Kicking off 2016, and with the Deluxe Mastering facility’s 10 year anniversary coming up in April, Jack the Bear has mastered projects for Eat The Damn Orange, HeadtorcH, Daniel Kirkland, Speedracer, Cog, Disco Is Dead, From Oslo, and Freeza Push Start Battle of the Bands winner The Bean Project.

Adam Dempsey has been flat out mastering singles for Dear Plastic, Baby Blue, Burrowing (Norway), Eilish Gilligan, Tetrahedra, and Demi Louise (entering the AMRAP regional airplay charts Top 10), remixes by Yeo for Emma Louise, and Jack Stirling, EP’s for Hoodlem (see below), LN3WLF, and Tanzer (for digital and vinyl), and albums for Daniel Champagne (recorded live in the studio by Duke David Sparks, mixed by Sam Hannan), Amistat (engineered and mixed by Matt Neighbour at Sing Sing), The Weeping Willows (engineered and mixed by Ryan Freeland in LA), a fourth album for Way Out West (mixed by Myles Mumford), Jane McArthur’s debut album of soulful tunes from various studios and engineers recorded throughout 2015, and an Elissa Goodrich contemporary jazz percussion album as part of an installation at Heide Museum of Modern Art sculpture park – the album getting great feedback from ABC Radio National, PBS, 3MBS, and Triple R (and yet again proving that natural dynamic range over “loudness” translates well to airplay).

This time around, when not mixing, Andrei Eremin has been mastering new releases for LANKS, Fortunes, Luboku, Albert Sorenson and Annie Bass.

Jack the Bear has been working on projects for The Hunted Crows, Ghost Loft, Black Aces, Icecream Hands, Cairo Knife Fight, and Jeff Lang.

Adam Dempsey clocked up 20 years of being paid to listen to music, and has been busy mastering for Astro & The Ages, Cabbages & Kings, Chris Matthews (WA), Jane McArthur, Mayfair Kytes, Nick Batterham, Rich Davies, Sex On Toast, Simon Hudson, Taxidermy Hall, debut EP for Tiny Little Houses, a new single for Yeo, and remastering Lisa Salvo’s debut album (produced with Joe Talia and Peter Knight) for vinyl.

Andrei Eremin has found himself mastering debut records for Wafia, Singapore’s very own Charlie Lim, as well as tracks from LANKS, JP Klipspringer and even an EP of his own original music.

The team have also put a Dangerous Music BAX EQ through its paces and decided it’s a keeper.

Adam Dempsey mastered releases for Olivers Army (engineered & mixed by Roger Bergodaz), post-rock trio Goodbye Enemy Airship (engineered & mixed by Neil Thomason at Head Gap), Tania Bosak & The Barefoot Orchestra (engineered & mixed by Myles Mumford), hip hop artist Bam Bam (mixed by Phil Threlfall), The Bon Scotts, Eleanor Dunlop, Jadida, James Parry, Ellen Burbidge, Chris Sprake, The Infants, vinyl remasters for CactusDemonDoom and winners of this year’s Australian Battle of the Bands Dear Plastic, a remix for Allday, and a Daktyl (UK) remix for Youngs (formerly I’ll Be An Indian).

Andrei Eremin has continued working on the upcoming Miami Horror record, as well as mastering a new single for recent triple J Unearthed High winner Japanese Wallpaper, a #1 Hype Machine hit by Brisbane singer-songwriter Wafia, and new music from Oisima, I’lls, Leaks, Foreign/National, Sunbeam Sound Machine, Stockades, Katie Wighton, Milwaukee Banks and more.

Acclaimed Melbourne singer/songwriters Jen Cloher and Courtney Barnett have each released cool new videos of their latest singles, set also for double A-side 7 inch vinyl release. We were happy to play a role in mastering these gems.

Jen Cloher’s ‘Mount Beauty’ (the vibey run-through was the take!) was recorded and mixed by Nick Huggins at Head Gap studios, Melbourne. Courtney Barnett’s ‘History Eraser’, recorded by Simon Cotter (and title-inspired at Head Gap) was mixed by Dann Hume. Both tracks were mastered by Adam Dempsey especially for digital release, vinyl, CD, and for the videos. Both videos directed by Bec Kingma. Watch for Jen and Courtney’s cameo appearances in each others’ clips.

We’ve been getting the most out of the new Forssell Technologies MADA-2 analogue to digital and digital to analogue converters, which complement the existing Lavry Gold & Blue converters. If we had to describe them in a few words: sonically “invisible” and honest, again retaining the musicality and depth of clients’ music.

In terms of CD, vinyl and digital release mastering projects, those by Tony “Jack the Bear” Mantz include Voodoocain, Little Wise, Emergency Rule, Jantina and the Jaguars, Mary of The Moon, Daniel Champagne, and David Garnham & The Reasons To Live.

Adam Dempsey has been mastering new music releases for Gossling, The Ovals, Playwrite, John Flanagan & the Begin Agains, Better Than the Wizards, Sam Lawrence, Avin Jason, Cavanagh & Argus, Andy Jans-Brown, Grizzly Jim Lawrie, a “half album” for The Harlots, plus 7 inch vinyl and digital releases each for Urns and The Morrisons.

Byron Scullin tweaked releases for T-Rek, Ainslie Wills, Jay Westerfold, Monnone Alone, and This is Your Captain Speaking.

Our congrats to The Bon Scotts – the Melbourne “folk-pop” act scored a 4 star review in Rolling Stone magazine for their second album ‘We Will All Die at the Hands of CGI’ (or simply ‘WWADATHOCGI…’), mastered by Adam Dempsey and out on Popboomerang Records.

Also worth checking out is the album’s cover, designed by Circal – a modern day ‘Sgt. Pepper’s’ depicting a bunch of identities reflected of our times.
